Stako wins hard-fought opener at Orleans


Top-seeded Sergiy advanced to the second round of the Open d’Orleans tournament with a 6-4 6-7(6) 6-3 win over Croatian qualifier Filip Veger on Tuesday. The match lasted two hours and 8 minutes.

Stako converted three of his seven break point opportunities and saved four of five break points he faced during the two hours, seven-minute clash.

Stats: aces (7-0), double faults (5-0), total points won (112-96).  The Kiev native goes on to face either Andrey Golubev (KAZ) or Marian Copil (ROM) for a place in the challenger event quarter-finals.

Moselle Open: Sergiy out in singles and doubles


Sergiy has suffered a 2-6, 5-7 loss to world no.103 Pierre-Hugues Herbert (WC) on Wednesday in the opening round of the Moselle Open in Metz.

The Frenchman broke twice in the first set and once in the second, having saved both break points that Stako earned during the one hour, 16-minute match.

Sergiy won 65% of points on his first serve, while his rival had 82% realization.

Stats: aces (5-5), double faults (2-3), total points won (50-66).

In the doubles competition, Sergiy and Oliver Marach fell to top-seeded duo of Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut 3-6, 4-6.

Sergiy Falls in Istanbul Challenger Final


Sergiy failed in attempt to claim his fifth ATP Challenger Tour title and first of the year, suffering a 6-4, 4-6, 3-6 defeat to Karen Khachanov on Sunday. The match lasted one hour and 57 minutes.

The 183-ranked Russian capitalised on four of his 12 break point chances, while Stako converted three of his five opportunities.

Stats: aces (8-5), double faults (6-3), total points won (92-99).

Sergiy has previously been victorious in Segovia, Kazan, Binghamton and Orleans.

Sergiy Reaches Istanbul Final


No.1 seed Sergiy outplayed fourth seed Andrey Kuznetsov of Russia 6-2, 6-3 in just 65 minutes on Saturday to book his place in the AMEX Istanbul Challenger final.

The Kiev native converted three of his seven break point opportunities and denied his opponent all five break points, having won 71% of points on his first serve.

Stats: aces (6-0), double faults (1-2), total points won (64-50).

Sergiy will take on another Russian, world no.183 Karen Khachanov, on Sunday at 16:00 local time (15:00 CET) in attempt to win the trophy.

Istanbul: Sergiy charges into semis


Top seed Sergiy cruised into the AMEX Istanbul Challenger semi-finals on Friday, after he defeated Romanian Marius Copil in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0 in just 62 minutes.

Stako broke once in the first set and three times in the second, having saved both break points he faced during the clash. The Kiev native won 70% of points on his first serve and 72% on second.

Stats: aces (0-1), double faults (2-4), total points won (62-40).

Sergiy will take on fourth-seeded Russian Andrey Kuznetsov in attempt to reach the final.

Sergiy battles into Istanbul QFs


No.1 seed Sergiy rallied from a set down, second time this week, to defeat world no.199 Nils Langer 2-6, 7-5, 7-5 and reach the last eight at the AMEX Istanbul Challenger on Thursday.

The Kiev native lost the opening set, but fought to turn the two hours, 10-minute match around and earn a meeting with Marius Copil (ROM).

Istanbul: Sergiy rallies to reach 2nd RD


Top seed Sergiy advanced into the AMEX Istanbul Challenger last 16 on Tuesday, coming back from a set down to beat world no.413 Ilya Ivashka of Belarus 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. The match lasted one hour and 40 minutes.

Stako converted four of his seven break points, and saved two of four break points he faced.

Stats: aces (3-0), double faults (2-5), total points won (86-77).

Sergiy will face no.199-ranked German Nils Langer for a place in the quarter-finals. It will be their first career meeting.

Sergiy falls to Tsonga in R3


Sergiy’s US Open singles campaign came to an end on Friday, when he lost his third round match to no.19 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 3-6, 5-7, 2-6 in two hours and two minutes.

Stako was broken four times from 14 opportunities, having failed to convert any of his two break point chances. The Frenchman was dominant in all aspects of the game. He improved to a perfect 5-0 H2H record against the Ukrainian no.2.

Stako wins all-Ukrainian affair at US Open


Sergiy has booked his place in the third round of the US Open with a 6-4, 7-6 (2), 4-6, 6-4 win over his Ukrainian compatriot, world no.120 Illya Marchenko, in three hours and six minutes.

Stako converted five of his nine break point chances, while Marchenko capitalised on four of his 19 opportunities.

Stats: aces (10-8), double faults (3-5), total points won (143-128).

Sergiy next faces Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, after the no.19 seed beat Marcel Granollers in straight sets. The Frenchman has a 4-0 H2H lead, they last met in 2012.
