Sergiy is through to the second round of US Open 2015 after defeating no.72-ranked Australian John Millman in four sets, 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (3), 6-4, in two hours and 38 minutes.
Stako took the first set easily, breaking Millman three times. His game slipped considerably in the next set, as his rival made two breaks to level at one set apiece. The Kiev native won the third set tie-breaker and was firmly in control in the fourth set. He needed just one break to take the set and match.

Sergiy next faces either no.16 seed Gael Monfils (FRA) or Illya Marchenko (UKR).
Three more days are left till the beginning of the last Grand Slam of the season – the US Open. The Men’s singles draw has been made on Thursday.
Competitions at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center (New York) begin on August 31, and last until September 13.
Sergiy will open his 2015 campaign against world no.72 John Millman of Australia. It will be their first career encounter.
The Kiev native could meet no.16 seed Gael Monfils in the third round. This will be Sergiy’s seventh appearance at Flushing Meadows. He recorded his best result in 2010 when he reached R3. Last year, Stako fell to Andreas Seppi in the first round (3-6, 1-6, 4-6).
Sergiy has suffered a 3-6, 2-6 defeat by world no.140 Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the opening round of the Winston-Salem Open on Monday. The French qualifier needed just 65 minutes to seal the win and reach the last 16 at the ATP World Tour 250 event held at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex. It was the first career meeting between the two.
Herbert broke three times from five opportunities, while Stako failed to convert any of his three break point chances. The 29-year-old Kiev native, currently no.60 in the ATP rankings, won 74% of points on his first serve, and just 35% of second-serve points.

Sergiy suffered a 4-6, 3-6 first round loss to Bernard Tomic at the Western & Southern Open on Monday. The match lasted just 55 minutes. Play was suspended due to rain after the Australian had won the opening set. When the players got back on the court, Tomic continued where he stopped. Stako was broken once again which resulted in elimination from the Cincinnati Masters.

Sergiy put up a solid fight against no.7 seed Rafael Nadal at the Rogers Cup on Wednesday afternoon, but went down in straight sets 6-7 (4), 3-6 in one hour and 25 minutes.
Players traded breaks once in the opening set, the Spaniard prevailed in a tie-breaker 7-4.
Stako had a 1-5 double-break deficit in the second set. The Manacor native was serving for the match when Sergiy broke back once. It was not enough as Rafa served it out at the second attempt.
The Ukrainian won 71% of points on his first serve to Nadal’s 84%.

Sergiy advanced into the second round of the Rogers Cup presented by National Bank with a 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 win over Canada`s hope Filip Peliwo on Monday.
Stako raced through the opening set in 25 minutes, and it looked as if it would be an easy victory when he was serving for it at 5-2 in the second set. However, Peliwo broke three times and forced a decider. The Kiev native regained his composure and sealed the win to set up a match with no.7 seed, Spaniard Rafael Nadal.

World no.59 Sergiy will start his US Open Series campaign at the Rogers Cup presented by National Bank, an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament in Montreal, Canada (August 10-16). A week later, another ATP Masters 1000 event, the Western & Southern Open, begins in Cincinnati (August 16-23). Stako missed both tournaments last year, which means he can only gain points.
The Winston-Salem Open, an ATP 250 category event, will be Sergiy's final test before the last Grand Slam in 2015 – the US Open (August 31-September 13), where he fell in the opening round in 2014 (l. to Andreas Seppi).
