Stako victorious in Orleans


Sergiy is the 2014 Open D`Orleans champion! The sixth-seeded Ukrainian beat no.5 seed Thomaz Bellucci 6-2, 7-5 in one hour and 14 minutes on Sunday to lift the ATP Challenger trophy.

Stako broke twice in the opening set to take it 6-2.

The Kiev native made a crucial break in the 11th game of the second set and served it out 7-5.

Stats: aces (7-2), double faults (3-2), total points won (67-54).

Sergiy to face Bellucci in Orleans final


No.6 seed Sergiy rallied from behind once again, when he recorded a 6-7 (5), 7-5, 6-0 victory over third-seeded Czech Jiri Vesely to reach the final at the Open D'Orleans challenger on Saturday. The match lasted two hours and two minutes.

After the players had split the first two sets, Stako stormed through the third with a triple break for 6-0. Vesely won just 22% of his first and 0% of his second service points in the decider. The Kiev native converted his chances, setting up a battle for title with Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil. The fifth seed eliminated Paul-Henri Mathieu in straight sets earlier in the day. ...

Sergiy rallies to reach semi-finals


Sixth seed at the Open D`Orleans, Sergiy, came back from a set down to beat world no.210 Tim Puetz 6-7 (3), 6-1, 6-3 in quarter-final action on Friday.

Stako won 83% of his first service points, broke four times from six opportunities and saved both break points he faced to progress into the last four in one hour and 50 minutes.

Games went with serve in the first set. The German won a tie-breaker 7-3. Sergiy responded strongly, breaking twice in both second and third sets to seal the win in the first career meeting between the two.

Stako tops Berrer for QF spot


No.6 seed Sergiy advanced into the Open D'Orleans last eight with a 6-3, 6-1 win over world no.116 Michael Berrer in just 52 minutes on Wednesday.

Stako hit 15 aces and won 89% of his first service points, not giving his opponent a single chance to break. The Kiev native broke twice in each set, storming into the quarter-finals of the challenger event where he will meet the winner of the match between Germany`s Dustin Brown and Tim Puetz.

In the first round, Sergiy defeated Tristan Lamasine of France 7-6, 6-3.

Stako loses in Metz Opener


Sergiy was ousted in his opening match at the Moselle Open by Finland's Jarkko Nieminen. He lost the contest 6-1, 6-4 in 65 minutes.

Nieminen played an inspired match, as he won 71% of his first service points and converted 3 of the 6 break point opportunities he was gifted by Stako.

The victory also gave Nieminen the 3-1 lead in the head-to-head series.

Davis Cup: Ukraine 2-3 Belgium


Ukraine’s wait for a maiden appearance in the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group will have to wait another year after David Goffin sealed the vital third point for Belgium, to preserve their status amongst tennis’ elite for another year.

Belgium snatch doubles victory to take lead


Belgium has the advantage in their Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group play-off after a thrilling five set doubles victory against Ukraine. Sergiy Stakhovsky and Sergei Bubka had battled back from two-sets-to-love down to take the match into a decider, but somehow, Ruben Bemelmans and Olivier Rochus regrouped to seal victory in two hours and 55 minutes.

Both pairs looked nervous in the opening set, however in the sixth game, a Bubka volley into the net, handed Belgium the first break of the match. Rochus was in imperious form at the net and showed all his experience and guile, as he would seal the first set 6-2 with a fine cross-court lob.

Belgium level with Ukraine after Day 1


Sergiy Stakhovsky had put his side into a 1-0 lead against Belgium after coming from a set down to beat Steve Darcis before David Goffin put a dent into the Ukrainian hopes of qualifying for the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group for the first time in its history.

Stakhovsky, who is leading his country in this tie due to the absence of Alexandr Dolgopolov, got off to a slow start, as his tactic of coming into the net at every available opportunity was not paying dividends. Time and again, he was being picked off by Darcis, who said he would look to pass and lob given the chance.

Sergiy to lead Ukrainian team in Tallinn


Sergiy returns to the tennis court six days after his semi-final performance at the Trophee des Aphilles challenger in St Remy.

Ukraine hosts Belgium in Tallinn, Estonia, for their Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group play-off tie (September 12-14). They will attempt to reach the World Group for the first time.

The neutral venue was proposed by the Ukrainian Tennis Federation, who retained choice of ground after the tie was unable to be staged in Ukraine because of security issues.

St Remy: Millot ends Sergiys run


Second seed Sergiy suffered a 6-4, 6-2 loss to Frenchman Vincent Millot in the Trophee des Aphilles challenger semi-finals on Saturday. The match lasted 69 minutes.

Sergiy marches into semis


No.2 seed Sergiy defeated Maxime Chazal in straight sets - 6-2, 7-6 (0), to reach the last four at the Trophee des Aphilles in St Remy on Friday.

Stako broke four times from seven opportunities, and saved five from the seven break points he faced during the 69-minute match. After sealing the opening set 6-2, Sergiy broke once again in the second set. He was serving for victory at 5-4 when the French wild card broke back and forced a tie-breaker. The Kiev native raced to 7-0 to progress into the challenger semi-finals.

St Remy: Sergiy moves into second round


No.2 seed Sergiy rallied from a set down to beat Italian qualifier Erik Crepaldi 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 in one hour and 33 minutes, moving into the second round at the Trophee des Alpilles on Wednesday.
