Sergiy’s US Open campaign came to an end already in the first round, when he fell to world no.49 Andreas Seppi in straight sets 3-6, 1-6, 4-6 after one hour and 55 minutes of play on Monday.
Stako won 37% of points on his second serve and converted just one of his 17 break point chances. The Italian was more successful as he capitalised on six of his eight opportunities.
Match statistics: aces (6-3), double faults (5-5), total points won (86-110). With the loss, Sergiy has dropped to an 18-17 record on the season.
Three more days are left till the beginning of the last Grand Slam of the season – the US Open. The Men’s singles draw has been made on Thursday. Competitions at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center (New York) begin on August 25, and last until September 8.
Sergiy will open his 2014 campaign against world no.48 Andreas Seppi of Italy. It will be their second career encounter, Stako won their only previous meeting back in 2010. The Kiev native could meet no.21 seed Russian Mikhail Youzhny in the third round.

Sergiy has taken some time off due to his back problem, but is now back on track, finalizing preparations for the last Grand Slam in 2014, the US Open, taking place in New York from August 25 to September 8. The Kiev native spent two weeks in Ukraine, working on his back rehabilitation. He played his last match three weeks ago at the Citi Open in Washington, where he suffered an opening round loss to Malek Jaziri.
Sergiy is hoping to perform well at the final major event of the season, starting next Monday. He fell to Jeremy Chardy in R1 last year (4-6, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4, 4-6). Stako is currently ranked no.94 in the ATP list and has an 18-16 record.
