Sergiy falls in Paris opener


Sergiy suffered a 3-6, 4-6, 6-2, 3-6 loss to Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan in the first round of the 2014 French Open on Tuesday. The match lasted two hours and 19 minutes.

Istomin hit nine aces to none from Stako, and broke four times from eight opportunities. The Kiev native converted two of his five chances.

Statistics: aces (0-9), double faults (6-2), winners (35-35), unforced errors (23-26), total points won (100-119).

Sergiy to face Istomin in Roland Garros R1


Singles draw has been made for the second Grand Slam of the season, the Roland Garros, taking place in Paris, from May 25 to June 8.

Sergiy will open his 2014 French Open campaign against world no.57 Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan (2-0 H2H). Stako could meet no.28 seed Philipp Kohlschreiber (GER) in the second round.

This will be the sixth appearance on Parisian clay for the 28-year-old Kiev native. He recorded his best result in 2011 when he reached round 3.

Last year, Sergiy lost to Richard Gasquet in the opening round 1-6, 4-6, 3-6.

Sergiy-Gicquel win Bordeaux title


Stako and his doubles partner Marc Gicquel won the BNP Paribas Primrose challenger title on Sunday, after they were given a walkover. Their rivals Ryan Harrison and Alex Kuznetsov withdrew from the final match due to a left leg injury (Harrison). Congratulations!

Sergiy-Gicquel reach finals in Bordeaux


Sergiy and his partner Marc Gicquel advanced into the BNP Paribas Primrose challenger final with a 6-4, 3-6, 13-11 win over Argentine duo of Guido Pella and Diego Sebastian Schwartzman on Friday. The match lasted one hour and 15 minutes. Stako and Marc will take on either Americans Ryan Harrison and Alex Kuznetsov or wild card combination from France, Enzo Couacaud/Laurent Lokoli, for Bordeaux title.

No.5 seed Sergiy suffered a 6-3, 6-3 defeat to world no.153 Alex Kuznetsov of USA in the first round clash at the BNP Paribas Primrose Challenger on Tuesday. The match lasted 66 minutes. The Kiev native used only one of his three break point chances, while Kuznetsov capitalised on four of his six opportunities. Stats: aces (4-2), double faults (0-0), total points won (49-64).
