Struff ends Sergiy`s Munich campaign


German qualifier Jan-Lennard Struff brought Sergiy`s BMW Open campaign to an end when he defeated him in straight set 6-3, 6-3 on Wednesday. The match lasted 72 minutes.

Stako won just 18% of his second serve points and was broken once in the first and twice in the second set, failing to realize his six break point chances.

Stats: aces (3-1), double faults (2-0), total points won (57-68).

The German improved their H2H record to 2-0.

Sergiy fights past Gojowczyk into second round


Sergiy came back from a set down to beat world no.113 Peter Gojowczyk of Germany 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 in one hour and 27 minutes at the BMW Open on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old Kiev native broke four times from nine opportunities, while his rival converted two of his six chances. It was their first career meeting.

Match statistics: aces (6-11), double faults (2-4), total points won (82-77).

Sergiy will face either no.6 seed Spaniard Feliciano Lopez or Jan-Lennard Struff for a place in the last eight of the ATP World Tour 250 event in Munich.

Dimitrov ends Stako`s Bucharest campaign


Sergiy suffered a 6-3, 6-4 defeat by top seed Grigor Dimitrov on Friday at the BND Nastase Tiriac Trophy. The Bulgarian needed 67 minutes to seal the win and move into the semi-finals of the ATP World Tour 250 event in Bucharest, Romania. They are now levelled in career H2H, 1-1. Sergiy broke once from two opportunities, while Dimitrov capitalised on three of his six chances.

Sergiy battles past Berlocq to reach Bucharest quarter-finals


For the second time this week, Sergiy came back from a set down to advance. In his second match at the BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy, the 28-year-old Kiev native defeated world no.61 Carlos Berlocq of Argentina 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2 to progress into the last eight at the ATP World Tour 250 event in Bucharest.

The match lasted two hours and 22 minutes.

After losing the opening set 4-6, Sergiy remained focused and determined to turn the match in his favour. Games went with serve in the second set, so it was decided in a tie-breaker. Stako won it 7-5.

Sergiy took the momentum into the final set and with two breaks of serve sealed his second career victory over Berlocq.

Sergiy moves to second round in Bucharest


Sergiy rallied from a set down to beat Romanian wild card Patrick Ciorcila 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 in one hour and 32 minutes in his opening round match at the BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy on Monday. The 17-year-old Romanian hope took the first set 6-2 with two breaks of serve. Stako fought back equally to force a decider, which he won easily to advance into the last 16 of the ATP World Tour 250 event in Bucharest, Romania.

He will next meet either no.6 seed Italian Andreas Seppi or Carlos Berlocq of Argentina.

Davis Cup: Ukraine 4-1 Sweden


Ukraine came out victorious in their Europe/Africa Zone Group I second round tie against Sweden in Malmo on Sunday. Sergiy secured the win for Ukraine in the fourth rubber beating Markus Eriksson 7-6, 7-6, 6-4. In the final rubber, Sergei Bubka defeated Rober Lindstedt, who retired with a back problem at one-set all.

Next stop, September's World Group play-offs.

Davis Cup: Ukraine leads Sweden 2-1


Johan Brunstrom and Robert Lindstedt's 7-6(4), 6-7(6), 3-6, 6-4, 10-8 victory over Sergei Bubka and Denys Molchanov on Saturday pulled Sweden to 2-1 against Ukraine in the Group I Europe/Africa second-round tie. The match will be decided Sunday in reverse singles, when Sergiy faces Markus Eriksson.If Eriksson can somewhow pull an upset, it will then come down to Johan Brunstrom of Sweden and Artem Smirnov of Ukraine.

Sergiy won the opening singles match in five sets against Johan Brunstrom on Friday while Artem Smirnov rallied to beat Eriksson in straight sets.

Davis Cup: Ukraine leads Sweden 2-0


Sergiy and Artem Smirnov gave Ukraine a 2-0 lead over Sweden in the tie for a place in the Davis Cup World Group play-offs on Friday. Sergiy earned a hard-fought victory over Johan Brunstrom, edging him 6-4, 6-4, 5-7, 3-6, 13-11 in the first rubber. In the second one, Artem Smirnov defeated Markus Eriksson 6-4, 6-1, 6-2.

Saturday's doubles will see Sergei Bubka and Denys Molchanov Brunstrom and Lindstedt.
