Sergiy, currently at no.88, put the pressure on his better ranked opponent in the deciding third set, and with two breaks of serve sealed the victory in their first career meeting. The 28-year-old Kiev native landed 81% of his first service points and saved all five break points he faced.

Sergiy has stumbled at the second-round stage of the Open 13 tennis tournament after falling to no.6 seed Edouard Roger-Vasselin of France 6-7 (2), 4-6 in one hour and 36 minutes on Thursday.
Sergiy was a break down in the opening set, but managed to break back when the Frenchman was serving for the set. He consolidated it to draw level and force a tie-breaker. Roger-Vasselin dictated play and won it 7-2.
The second set went on serve until the ninth game, when Edouard broke once more and served out to win, recording his second career victory over Stako.

Sergiy fought his way into the second round of the Open 13 tennis tournament in Marseille, as he came back to defeat world no.124 Daniel Evans 3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4 in one hour and 57 minutes on Tuesday. Evans started better, denying Stako all five break points in the opening set and converting one of his two chances to take a lead. However, the 28-year-old Kiev native had no intention of giving up. He increased the level of his game and prevailed in the second set tie-breaker, winning it 7-4 to level the match. Sergiy took the momentum into the deciding final set, sealing the victory to set up a meeting with either no.6 seed Edouard Roger-Vasselin of France or Croatian qualifier Ante Pavic.
Sergiy, who qualified for the main draw of the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament with two straight-set wins, was upset in his first-round match, losing 6-2 7-5 to Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber. The match lasted 66 minutes. Sergiy dropped serve twice in the opening and once in the second set and didn't have a single break-point opportunity for the entire match. Stako is still alive in doubles action in Rotterdam. Together with his doubles partner, he will face Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau in the first round.
The qualifying results are in at the ABN Amro World Tennis Tournament. The no. 5 seed in the qualifying draw Sergiy was among the four men to earn entry into the main event by winning two matches over the weekend. In the first round he beat Yannick Mertens of Belgium in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. In the final round he defeated Romania's Victor Hanescu 7-6(2), 6-4.
Sergiy has suffered a 4-6, 6-7 (8) defeat to qualifier Andrey Kuznetsov in a tightly-contested first round battle at the PBZ Zagreb Indoors, an ATP World Tour 250 event taking place in the capital of Croatia.
After losing the opening set, the 28-year-old Kiev native broke his opponent's serve in the second, and consolidated it for 3-0 lead. The Russian fought back to level and the set went to a tie-breaker. Kuznetsov won it 10-8.
Stako, currently no.83 in the ATP rankings, finished quarterfinalist last year to Jarkko Nieminen (6-4, 3-6, 6-7).

Sergiy led Ukraine to the Davis Cup Group I second round tie on Sunday as he beat Victor Hanescu of Romania 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 for an unbeatable 3-1 lead. The dead fifth rubber was not played. Ukraine next will fly to Sweden for the second round in April. Congratulations!
