No. 6 seed and 2009 finalist Viktor Troicki battled past Sergiy 6-7(4), 7-5, 6-3 in the first round of the Thailand Open on Tuesday. The match lasted two hours and 16 minutes.
First Set: 7-6(4)
The set featured four breaks of serve, two each, and ended with a tie-break, with Stako coming out on top.
Second Set: 5-7
Stako won just two of nine points on second serve and dropped serve twice, the second time in the last stages of the set.
Third Set: 3-6
Troicki broke twice, while Sergiy responded with only one break of serve.

No. 4 seed Fabio Fognini of Italy defeated former champion Sergiy 7-6(4), 6-4 in the second round of the St. Petersburg Open. The match lasted a bit over two hours.
The first set was very close. Fognini broke first to go up 3-1, but Sergiy managed to level. In the tie-break, the Italian turned out to be better and won 7-4. In the second set, Stako was 5-1 down but hung in there after responding for 5-4. However, Fognini took the set 6-4 and match.
Sergiy has announced his intended schedule until the end of 2012. Please note that this is provisional and may change.

Ukraine have been promoted to the Davis Cup Europe/Africa Zone Group I after fighting off a Latvian comeback to win 3-2.
Latvia started the day 2-1 down after having lost a thrilling five-set doubles match on Saturday but bounced back this morning when Ernests Gulbis easily overcame Sergiy Stakhovsky 60 63 61 to level the tie at 2-2.
This meant that the all-important fifth rubber would be between Ukraine's Illya Marchenko and Andis Juska of Latvia. The first set was close with Marchenko taking it 6-4. The Ukrainian then took the second set 6-3, before wrapping up the rubber 7-5 to send Ukraine through.
Ukraine edged ahead of Latvia on Saturday when their doubles team of Sergei Bubka and Sergiy Stakhovsky came through a hard fought match that went the distance in Liepaja, putting the visitors on the brink of an immediate return to Group I after their relegation last year.
With the score tied at 1-1 overnight, Bubka and Stakhovsky, who had lost their four previous Davis Cup doubles outings together, held their nerve to overcome Latvian duo Ernests Gulbis and Andis Juska 64 36 26 61 64, finally prevailing after more than three hours of intense battle.

Latvia and Ukraine have all to play for after there was nothing to choose between the two teams on the first day in Liepaja. Ernests Gulbis earned the first point for the hosts with a 4-6 6-3 6-4 6-2 victory over Sergei Bubka before Sergiy Stakhovsky levelled proceedings with a 6-3 6-4 6-4 win against Andis Juska.
