Sergiy withdrew from his Wimbledon first-round match due to a rib injury on Monday. He was 1-6, 0-1 down when he could no longer continue. His rib injury has bothered Stako since the AEGON Championships where he retired in the second round.
He hopes for a quick recovery to avoid missing any of the upcoming tournaments.
Sergiy is out of the AEGON Championships after retiring in the third set of his second-round match against Kevin Anderson on Wednesday. Having narrowly lost the first set in a tie-break, Stako dug deep and managed to level the match, winning the second set 6-2. He was up 4-3 in the decider when he pulled out with an oblique strain.
Sergiy comfortably beat Italy's Flavio Cipolla 6-4, 6-1 in his first match at the AEGON Championships on Tuesday to book his place in the second round. In the 77-minute match, Stako broke serve three times and won 79 per cent of points behind his first serve to notch his 10th won of the season.
The No. 86-ranked Sergiy will play No. 9 seed Kevin Anderson, who won the only previous meeting between the two, in the 2012 Australian Open.
Top seed Sergiy was beaten by No. 2 seed Blaz Kavcic of Slovenia 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 in the final of the Franken Challenger, a clay-court ITF event at Furth Germany. Stako's next stop will be the Aegon Championships in London, which starts this week. In the first round, he will face Flavio Cipolla of Italy. Sergiy won the only previous meeting against the Italian (Bratislaca, 2008).
Sergiy was beaten 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 by German Tommy Haas in the second round at Roland Garros on Wednesday. It was the first head-to-head matchup between the two.
