Sergiy Beaten by Berankis in QFs

No. 2 seed Sergiy was beaten by Ricardas Berankis of Lithuania 6-7(6), 6-3, 6-2 in the quarter-finals of the ATP Challenger Tour event in Bratislava, Slovakia. The match lasted one hour and 54 minutes.

The first set went on serve and ended on a tie-break, in which Stako raced to a 5-0 lead. At 6-1 to Sergiy, Berankis fought off five straight set points to bring the score to 6-all. However, the sixth time proved to be lucky for Stako, as he won 8-6. The second set was on serve until the eighth game when Sergiy could do little to stop Berankis from pocketing a decisive break and taking the set 6-3. In the decider, Berankis succcessfully converted two of two break point chances and rushed to a 6-2 win.

Sergiy Cruises Into Bratislava QFs

No. 2 seed Sergiy cruised into the quarter-finals of the Slovak Open on Wednesday as he dismissed Frenchman Maxime Teixeira 6-1, 6-3 at the ATP Challenger event in Bratislava.

The 25-year-old from Kiev struck 7 aces and converted five of 17 break points as he sealed victory in just 71 minutes. Stako improved to a 27-27 match record.

He next will face either another Frenchman Stephane Robert or Ricardas Berankis of Lithuania.

Sergiy Wins Bratislava Opener

No. 2 seed Sergiy, who is bidding to win his first ATP Challeger Tour title August 2008 in Segovia, defeated qualifier Kamil Capkovic 7-6(4), 7-5 in the first round at the Slovak Open in Bratislava, Slovakia. The match lasted two hours and 4 minutes.

The first set featured six breaks of serve, three to each player, and ended on a tie-break in which Stako held nerve at the end and eventually won 7-4. The second set was also close, but it was Sergiy who took it 7-5.

In the second round to be played on Wednesday, he will square off against Maxime Teixeira of France.

Second Round Exit in Paris

Sergiy's run at this year's BNP Paribas Masters in Paris is over as he lost 6-4, 6-4 to Serbia's Viktor Troicki in the second round. The match lasted one hour and 28 minutes. Stako


1st serve percentage (51-51), aces (1-5), double faults (4-2), winning % on 1st serve (61-74), winning % on 2nd serve (50-50), break point conversions (2 of 4 - 4 of 9), total points won (59-67).

In doubles play, Sergiy and partner Dick Norman of Belgium face wild-cards Arnaud Clement and Edouard Roger-Vasselin of France.

Stako Defeats Nishikori in Paris Opener

Sergiy, who had to make his way through the qualifying draw first, made a strong start Tuesday at the BNP Paribas Masters, defeating Japan's Kei Nishikori (a finalist last week in Basel) 6-4, 6-3 in one hour and 32 minutes. Stako converted four of nine break point chances he had during the match and hit 5 aces.

Stako achieved his best result in Paris last year when he reached the second round.

He next faces Serbia's Viktor Troicki. They have played three times before and Troicki leads the series 2-1.

Stako Into Main Draw in Paris

Sergiy made his way into the main draw of the BNP Paribas Masters, defeating Igor Kunitsyn of Russia in a tight battle 7-6(1), 6-7(3), 6-3 on Court 2 on Sunday morning. The match lasted two hours and 34 minutes.

No. 6 seed Stako breezed through the first-set tie-break 7-1. In the second set, it looked as if everything was headed in the right direction for Sergiy who served for the match at 5-4. Unfortunately, he wasted three match points and got broken to 5-5. Stako saved two set points in the 12th game to take it to another tie-break, but this time it was the Russian who took control. The third set was decided by a single break of serve. Stako converted the only break point he had to win 6-3....
