No. 2 seed Sergiy was beaten by Ricardas Berankis of Lithuania 6-7(6), 6-3, 6-2 in the quarter-finals of the ATP Challenger Tour event in Bratislava, Slovakia. The match lasted one hour and 54 minutes.
The first set went on serve and ended on a tie-break, in which Stako raced to a 5-0 lead. At 6-1 to Sergiy, Berankis fought off five straight set points to bring the score to 6-all. However, the sixth time proved to be lucky for Stako, as he won 8-6. The second set was on serve until the eighth game when Sergiy could do little to stop Berankis from pocketing a decisive break and taking the set 6-3. In the decider, Berankis succcessfully converted two of two break point chances and rushed to a 6-2 win.
No. 2 seed Sergiy cruised into the quarter-finals of the Slovak Open on Wednesday as he dismissed Frenchman Maxime Teixeira 6-1, 6-3 at the ATP Challenger event in Bratislava.
The 25-year-old from Kiev struck 7 aces and converted five of 17 break points as he sealed victory in just 71 minutes. Stako improved to a 27-27 match record.
He next will face either another Frenchman Stephane Robert or Ricardas Berankis of Lithuania.
No. 2 seed Sergiy, who is bidding to win his first ATP Challeger Tour title August 2008 in Segovia, defeated qualifier Kamil Capkovic 7-6(4), 7-5 in the first round at the Slovak Open in Bratislava, Slovakia. The match lasted two hours and 4 minutes.
The first set featured six breaks of serve, three to each player, and ended on a tie-break in which Stako held nerve at the end and eventually won 7-4. The second set was also close, but it was Sergiy who took it 7-5.
In the second round to be played on Wednesday, he will square off against Maxime Teixeira of France.

Sergiy, who had to make his way through the qualifying draw first, made a strong start Tuesday at the BNP Paribas Masters, defeating Japan's Kei Nishikori (a finalist last week in Basel) 6-4, 6-3 in one hour and 32 minutes. Stako converted four of nine break point chances he had during the match and hit 5 aces.
Stako achieved his best result in Paris last year when he reached the second round.
He next faces Serbia's Viktor Troicki. They have played three times before and Troicki leads the series 2-1.
Sergiy made his way into the main draw of the BNP Paribas Masters, defeating Igor Kunitsyn of Russia in a tight battle 7-6(1), 6-7(3), 6-3 on Court 2 on Sunday morning. The match lasted two hours and 34 minutes.

Unfortunately, he wasted three match points and got broken to 5-5. Stako saved two set points in the 12th game to take it to another tie-break, but this time it was the Russian who took control.
