Stako and Mikhail Youzhny returned to the ATP World Tour winners' circle on Saturday at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships as they defeated Jeremy Chardy and Feliciano Lopez 4-6, 6-3, 10-3 in the final of the ATP World Tour 500 hard-court tennis tournament.
The Ukrainian-Russian duo first joined forces at Roland Garros last year and clinched their first piece of silverware in just their second tournament together at Halle (d. Damm-Polasek) in June. However, since then they had failed to advance beyond the semi-finals of an ATP World Tour event and opened 2011 with a 1-2 mark.

Stako was knocked out of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships Thursday by top seed and four-time winner Roger Federer. He lost 6-3, 6-4 in one hour and 13 minutes.
Sergiy lost the opening set 6-3 despite breaking Federer’s serve once. In the second set, Stako dropped serve once and couldn’t break back as he wasted three break points.
In doubles play, Sergiy and Mikhail Youzhny won two matches and advanced to the semi-finals. For a place in the final, they will play Marcel Granollers and Dick Norman.
Sergiy is through to the quarter-finals of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships after posting a 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 win over Latvia’s Ernests Gulbis. The match lasted one hour and 58 minutes.
Sergiy broke once in the opening set to take it 6-3. In the second set, Stako went a break up early but the Latvian broke back in the fourth game and then again in the twelfth. One set all. Sergiy came out firing in the decider, breaking Gulbis three times and taking the set 6-1.
Sergiy next will play either Roger Federer or Marcel Granollers.
Sergiy made a strong start to his Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships by defeating wild-card Omar Awadhy 6-4, 6-2 Monday. The match lasted 55 minutes. With today’s victory, Stako improved to 6-5 mark on the season.
The 25-year-old from Kiev next will face Ernests Gulbis for a place in the quarterfinal. They have played once before and Gulbis won 6-4, 6-4 (Sydney, earlier this year).
Sergiy is out of the Open 13 tennis tournament after losing his second-round match 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. The match lasted one hour and 50 minutes.
The first set went on serve until Stako grabbed a decisive break to take it 7-5. From that point on, however, Tsonga didn’t face another break point and Sergiy was broken three times in the second and third set.

Sergiy opened his Open 13 campaign on Monday with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over countryman Illya Marchenko in the first round of the ATP World Tour 250 tennis tournament in Marseille.
Stako, who posted a second round showing last year (l. to Soderling), capitalized on four of the four break points he created and won 73 per cent of points on first serve to seal victory in one hour and 18 minutes.
In the second round to be played on Wednesday, Sergiy awaits the winner of the match between Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Benoit Paire.
Sergiy was knocked out of the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam as he lost 7-6(3), 6-3 to Croatia’s Ivan Ljubicic.
The first set featured one break of serve by each player. In the tie-break, Sergiy was 6-2 down and managed to save one set point before Ljubicic snatched the opening set in 58 minutes. The second set went on serve until Ljubicic broke in the eighth game, capitalizing on the fifth of his break points. He then held to wrap up the match in one hour and 43 minutes.
Last year Sergiy was forced to withdraw in the first-round match against Novak Djokovic.
