Sergiy is out of the Australian Open at the third-round stage after he lost 5-7, 6-2, 6-4, 6-2 to Spain’s Tommy Robredo in three hours and 4 minutes.
Stako took the first set 7-5, but dropped the next three in a match that featured twelve breaks of serve. Sergiy broke only four times from 19 opportunities throughout the match, while his opponent eight times from 14 opportunities. Stako’s second serve left a lot to be desired today; he won only 40 per cent of points on his second serve, compared to Robredo’s 58 per cent.

Sergiy was a comfortable straight-sets winner on Wednesday, dismissing Lukasz Kubot of Poland 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 in the second round of the Australian Open. The match lasted two hours and 7 minutes.

Sergiy opened his Australian Open campaign with a convincing straight-set win, cruising past German Daniel Brands 6-2, 6-3, 6-4 in one hour and 32 minutes.
The World No. 43 hit seven aces and converted on six of 10 break point opportunities, while dropping serve twice, to advance to the second round for the first time in his career.

The draw for the Australian Open 2011 has been released and Stako will play Germany’s Daniel Brands in the first round. They have played twice before on Challenger Tour and Sergiy won on both occasions. The first seeded player he could meet is the No. 18 seed Sam Querrey in the second round.
Last year Sergiy lost to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the first round.
Sergiy didn’t advance to the semi-finals of the Medibank International Sydney as he lost 6-4, 6-4 to third-seeded Latvian Ernests Gulbis in one hour and 34 minutes.
The Ukrainian, who was broken twice in the first set and once in the second, capitalized on only one of six break point chances throughout the match (his opponent three of seven).
Stako next will play the first Grand Slam of the year, the Australian Open, which begins next week. Last year he lost to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the first round.
Stako, making his first appearance at the event, needed 66 minutes to defeat Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-3, 6-4 on Wednesday and book his place in the quarter-finals at the Medibank International Sydney.
The Ukrainian never faced a break point throughout the match and lost only eight points on serve.
Next up is third seed Ernests Gulbis of Latvia. This will be the first meeting between the two players.
Sergiy won his first match in a year, posting a 7-6(3), 7-6 (6) victory over Benjamin Becker of Germany. The match lasted one hour and 46 minutes.
The first set saw no breaks of serve and went into a tie-break which Sergiy took 7-3. In the second set, both players traded breaks twice before reaching a tie-break again. This one was closer, but in the end it was Stako that prevailed, taking it 8-6.
In the second round, the Ukrainian will face either Chris Guccione or Guillermo Garcia-Lopez.
Sergiy started the New ATP World Tour season with a first-round loss to Viktor Troicki 6-4, 7-5 at the Qatar ExxonMobil in Doha on Tuesday. The match, which lasted one hour and 18 minutes, was the third head-to-head matchup between the two and now Troicki leads the series 2-1.
Stako is also playing doubles this week, partnering Filip Polasek of Slovakia. In the first round, the Ukrainian-Slovakian duo defeated Johan Brunstorm and Jarkko Nieminen 6-3, 7-6(3). In the quarter-finals they will face Igor Zelenay and Fabio Fognini.
