Sergiy didn’t manage to go through to the second round at the French Open as he lost 7-6(4), 6-3, 6-2 to world No. 57 Leonardo Mayer.
Both players started well, served solidly and held their serves comfortably. As a result, the set came down to a tie-break battle in which Mayer won 7-4. The second set saw no breaks of serve till 4-3 with Mayer clinching the deciding break in the eighth game of the set to serve for the set which he won 6-3. In the third, Mayer took an early break and then another holding his serve until the end.
The first-round loss means that Sergiy will not defend points he earned by making the second round last year.
