Sergiy crashed out of the Open 13 after losing his second-round match 7-6(5), 3-6, 4-6 to World No. 8 Robin Soderling of Sweden. ATP Marseille: Sergiy Advances

Sergiy opened main draw action today at the Open 13 with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win over Italian Simone Bolelli. Stako closed out the match in 1 hour and 45 minutes to earn a spot in the second round against top seed and World No. 8 Robin Soderling. The in-form Swede, who received a first-round bye, will be a tough opponent as he claimed the Rotterdam crown last weekend winning five consecutive matches and defeating Davydenko and Youzhny en route.

Stako has played only once before against Robin Soderling at the ATP Milan Open on carpet in 2005 and he lost 6-3, 6-2.

ATP Rotterdam: Novak Through As Stako Retires

World No. 2 Novak Djokovic is through to the second round of the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament after Sergiy was forced to retire because of injury. The Serbian led one-set-to-love and had raced into a 4-1 lead in the second before Stako had to withdraw with a knee problem.
This season Sergiy has won only one match so far against Mikhail Youzhny of Russia at Doha. 10 days ago, due to a viral infection and a high temperature, Sergiy decided to pull out of the ATP Zagreb, which he won in 2008 and is one of his favourite tournaments.
Sergiy’s schedule for the weeks to come will soon be released and published on this site.
