8th seed Sergiy has been knocked out of Newport by Oliver Rochus of Belgium in the 2nd round. In his Newport debut, Rochus managed to survive a scrap with Sergiy, rallying from a set down to win 5-7, 7-6 (7-2), 6-3.
In a match originally scheduled to be contested on Tuesday, Sergiy's encounter against Frank Dancevic of Canada was definitely a step in the right direction. After a close first set tie-break win, Sergiy let his opponent win the second set in quick and clean fashion. A crucial break in the decisive set allowed Stako to post a win over a 24-year-old Niagara Falls native and proceed to the next round.
Final score: 7-6 (11-9), 2-6, 7-5.
Stako will next face off against Oliver Rochus, who was a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 winner over Alexander Peya.
